Crystal Reports and Unicode input

Hi!

I'm trying to use Crystal Reports with our proprietory data (some of it stored in CodeBase database, some in text files, some is captured in runtime, etc). The simplest solution would be to create comma separated file and pass it to CR. It works, except our text fields can be in a variety of langauges (some european and Chinese Simplified and Traditional). Our software uses Unicode, so I'd prefer to create Unicode CSV file. These files cause CR to fail - it is obvious that CR does not realise that the file is Unicode. I tried other options, and so far I've discovered that CR can read Unicode XML files, while treating them as ADO.Net databases. This is not the best way out, as I suspect it requires .Net framework to be present on target PCs, and it's a big install.

So - any ideas? What simple format can I use to pass Unicode text to CR, or may be some other approaches.

I'm using: CR ver XI, target OS - Win2000 and XP, we can not expect target PC to have anything but Windows installed

Many thanks

balrogPS, when I said CR fails - it does not crash, it simply shows incorrect column names (the first one includes Unicode BOM), number of columns and and all values are wrong
balrog|||hi!
i'm stuck in code and i came across your post when i was searching 4 a solution.
I want to connect to crystal through an XML data source. Im using Visual C++ 6.0. I know how to do it by using an Acess db, bt cant do it using XML.

crystal reports (the coder way) ?

Hi

I have a .NET application that needs to obtain the details of the parameters for a crystal report.

I have written some code, that opens a report into the crystal viewer and the gets the parameter info and displays it in a msgbox.

However, the viewer prompts for the parameters, before i get a chance to get the information and display it.:(

My question is, does anyone know of a way that i can get the parameter information from a report, without the user being prompted for the parameters ?

Thanks in anticipation[Moved thread]|||YOu need to populate the parameters to the report before viewing it the viewer or printing it to the printer.

Crystal Analysis 9.0 Vs MS SQL Server 2000 (OLAP)

Hi

I want to connect MS SQL 2000 Server with Crystal Analysis via OLAP.

I have installed SQL with Windows authentication mode and installed crystal Analysis 9.0

I have configured Crystal OLAP connection setup.

When I am trying to open or create new application through CA I am not getting through OLAP connection with SQL and I am receiving the error as the following.

Error 1

" Unknown User name and bad password."

Error 2

Failes to initialize.( Cannot connect to the server 'XXXX." the server is not started or too busy)

My SQL server has already started.

Please advsie me ASAP.Run Profiler on the SQL Server and see if you're getting a failed login attempt, or any login attempt at all. That should at least tell you if you're connecting. Can you ping the SQL Serer from where you're doing this|||Hi Chandrat,

I haven't worked with version 9 before but Crystal connectivity issues with SQL Server have somewhat of a track record.

I would suggest checking the basics eg. pinging (as per derrickleggit's post) but you might also want to check out the following:

http://aspalliance.com/532

http://www.dynalivery.com/customersupport/faq/CannotOpenSQLServer.html

Cheers
SQLobSERVER.com|||Dear derrickleggett and SQLobSERVER.com Friends

As long as The SQL and CA9.0 are sitting in the same machine, pinging is working finely.

Profiler receives the connectivity without failure.

Please clarify my doubts.

I have loded IBM Content Manager in my machine, that needs to disable IIS, SMTP, WWWS services to operate CM via IBM HTTP server and IBM Webshpere and I had done so.

Will it cause any problem for the login failure error?

Please update me.|||Is CA9 the only Crystal app you have running?|||Yes... Only Crystal Analysis 9.0..|||Is there any way to explicitly declare the connection values from Crystal? ie. servername, databasename, userID and password?|||We have the only way to connect thru Crystal OLAP connection browser.

There is an option to add server details like as follows

Server Type==> (Microsoft OLE DB provider for olap Sereices 8.0)

Caption==> (Ex:SQLTM)

Server options:

OLAP SERVER

Server Name==>(Ex: DATEC)

Username==>(Ex: SQLADMIN)

Password==>(Ex: *******)

I made the connection with a valid server name, username and password, but not get conneced.|||Chandrat,

I'm stumped - prob best to raise the support call (if you haven't done so already). Looks like you have done everything right. Profiler has even confirmed the connection. Crystal looks like the weak link.

Please let me know how you go and what BO come back with.

Cheers

Cross tab stored procedure

Hi
I have a table with rows of timestamped values for given variables. Each of the variables are periodically inserted at the same time. ie
DateTime Variable Value.
T1 V1 xxxx
T1 V2 xxxx
T1 V3 xxxx
T2 V1 yyyy
T2 V2 yyyy
T2 V3 yyyy
In a SQLserver stored procedure I would like to insert this data into a temp table like the following. I don't need summaries just need a table or query where I can select on a variables value. ie "select * from temptable where V3 = yyyy"
Datetime V1 V2 V3
T1 xxxx xxxx xxxx
T2 yyyy yyyy yyyy
any suggestions for an SQL statement.
thanks in advance.
I don't exactly understand your business requirements. Are V1, V2, and V3 the only possible values for the Variable column? If so, something like this might help to get you started:

SELECT
DateTime,
MIN(V1),
MIN(V2),
MIN(V3)
FROM
(
SELECT
DateTime,
CASE
WHEN Variable = 'V1' THEN Value ELSE NULL
END AS V1,
CASE
WHEN Variable = 'V2' THEN Value ELSE NULL
END AS V2,
CASE
WHEN Variable = 'V3' THEN Value ELSE NULL
END AS V3
FROM
yourTable
) AS subQuery
GROUP BY
DateTime

Thanks Terri

The base table contains many variables. The data in this table is produced by a periodic time base event which inserts a row for each of the variables along with their current value. What I am trying to achieve is a record set where I can compare the values of selected variables in a single row based on the timestamp. ie
DateTime Var1 Var2 Var3
1/1/2005 10:00 Product1 10 20
1/1/2005 10:05 Product2 9 15
1/1/2005 10:10 Product2 12 30
1/1/2005 10:20 Product1 15 16
Once I have this record set I can then do selections based on the value of any variable ie
"select * from recorset where Var1 = 'Product1'"
I tried a statement similar to the one you have posted but my case statement sintax wasn't quite right.
I'm not in the office for a few days so may not get a chance try your code.
regards
Noel

Cross Tab Query

Is it possible by crosstab query ?or please suggest me another way as early as possible.

Thanx in advance.

Abhishek

Have a look at thePIVOT method in SQL Server 2005.

Agree.

Based on my understanding, I think you can use crosstab query in your case. It is desgined for that.

A crosstab calculates an aggregation on a certain column (A) in a set of rows. It then transforms the unique values in another column (X) into column names for the result. All other columns (Y) are used for grouping and their unique values define the rows for the result. The aggregated values of A are distributed among columns in the result according to the value of X and among rows in the result according to the value of Y.

BTW, since you are using sql2005, i think you would need this link:http://searchsqlserver.techtarget.com/tip/0,289483,sid87_gci1131829,00.html

You can first run that script to create a sp_crosstab then you will be able to use cross tab through your database. thanks

can you be more specific about the columns in the query? I think it can be dne with Group By.

|||

You can't do this by cross-matrix query.

But you can gather such data Datatable in asp.net.

say you have three tables

table a which contains columns : year_id, year.

table b which contains columns : region_id, region.

table c which contains columns : year_id, region_id, amt.

you just do:

string sql="select year_id, year from a";

datatable maindt=sqlhelper.executedatatable(cn, text, sql);

sql="select region_id, region from b";

datatable tempdt=sqlhelper.executedatatable(cn, text, sql);

foreach (datarow dr in tempdt.rows)

{

maindt.columns.add(dr["region"].tostring());

}

foreach (datarow dr in maindt.rows)

{

for(int i=2;i<maindt.columns.count;i++)

{

sql="select amt from c, b where c.region_id=b.region_id and year_id=dr["year_id"].tostring() and region=maindt.columns[i].columnname";

tempdt=sqlhelper.executedatatable(cn, text, sql);

dr[i]=tempdt.rows[0][0].tostring();

}

}

mayankparmar2000:

You can't do this by cross-matrix query.

Yes you can (see the link in my first post). There are other methods as well if you are using a version of SQL Server older than 2005.

Hi guies !

Finaly i resolve this problem by using Pivote in sql 2005 .

Any way thanks for all of u for ur suggestion.

Cross tab in crystal 8.5

Hi

I would like to know how to add column headings for the cols created in the Cross tab report in crystal 8.5. Most of the cross tab reports are come with horizontal headings as the fields in the database. If I add a few cols in the cross tab and want to have my own custom headings, how do I do that?. Your help is really appreciated.

thanks

ArunHi

It is difficult to change column heading, because the value of particular field is becoming the heading.
One solution is you can replace column field with a formula. Formula return appropriate value for each data in the field.

e.g

If {PLACE} = "Bombay" Then
"Mumbai"
Else If {PLACE} = "Maddras" Then
"Chenni"
Else
{PLACE}
