Crystal Report using SQL CE

I've created an app that connects to a SQLCE database. I need to create Crystal Reports that connect to the database. There is no ODBC driver for SQLCE. How can I do this?

Thanks,

Kathy

Can you use OLEDB with Crystal Reports, the provider name is:

PROVIDER=Microsoft.SQLSERVER.MOBILE.OLEDB.3.0

|||

Erik, I'm missing something along the way.

I've ran C:\WINDOWS\system32\regsvr32.exe sqlceoledb30.dll but don't see sqlserver mobile 3.0 under the OLEDB connections I can define in Crystal. I've also tried sending the connection through code and get the following error. Public member 'DataSourceConnections' on type 'Crystal Report Class'

Errors at

rpt.DataSourceConnections.Item(0).SetConnection("", "" & path1 & "\sales_quote.sdf", False)

Code:

Dim rpt As New Quote " name of report

Private Sub loadreport(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load

Dim path1 As String = My.Application.Info.DirectoryPath '' path

Dim con As New OleDbConnection("Provider=Microsoft.SQLSERVER.MOBILE.OLEDB.3.0;Data Source=|DataDirectory|\sales_quote.sdf")

Dim com As New OleDbCommand(" SELECT Quote_Header.Quote_Num, CUSTOMER.sh_name, CUSTOMER.sh_street," & _

"FROM ((Quote_Header Quote_Header INNER JOIN Quote_Line Quote_Line ON " & _

"Quote_Header.Quote_Num=Quote_Line.MQUOTE_NUM) LEFT OUTER JOIN SALESMAN SALESMAN ON Quote_Header.Salesman=SALESMAN.sm_salenum)" & _

"LEFT OUTER JOIN CUSTOMER CUSTOMER ON Quote_Header.ShipNum=CUSTOMER.sh_shipnum " & _

"WHERE Quote_Header.Quote_Num='" & 18 - 2209 - 7 & "' ORDER BY Quote_Line.QUOTE_AREA")

com.CommandType = CommandType.Text '' command type

com.Connection = con '' give connection to command

Dim adp As New OleDbDataAdapter '' declare adapter

adp.SelectCommand = com '' select command for adpapter to work on

Dim ds As New DataSet '' delcare dataset

adp.Fill(ds, "sales_quote") '' fill the dataset through adapter

Try

rpt.DataSourceConnections.Item(0).SetConnection("", "" & path1 & "\sales_quote.sdf", False)

'rpt.DataSourceConnections.Item(0).SetLogon("admin", "")

Catch exp As Exception

MsgBox(exp.Message)

End Try

rpt.DataSource = ds '' select the Dataset to the source of the report

CRViewer1.ReportSource = rpt '' assign the report to the crytal reprot viewr (cr1)

Can you tell me how to set the connection through Crystal Reports set database location or what I'm missing in my code.

Thanks,

|||

I don't understand the purpose of this line of code:

rpt.DataSourceConnections.Item(0).SetConnection

You already have filled a dataset (ds), and set this dataset to the datasource of the report.

I want to create a report with crystal report 9 and my database is sql server ce on pocket pc. How I connect to tables on sql server ce inside crystal report? I install sql server 2005 on my pc but there is'nt any provider in crystal report 9 that I can connect to tables on sql server ce. please help me.thank you

|||

i have the same prob to connect to SQL CE with CR11 ,the sqlceoledb30.dll is not realized by CR11

|||

Please contact Crystal support with this issue.

|||

Has anyone found out how to do this? Any replies from Crystal?

I've been looking around the net and haven't found any info on how to use Crystal with sql ce.

In case anyone's still looking, I finally got around this by using XML data definitions. A good example can be found here:

Crystal Analysis 9.0 Vs MS SQL Server 2000 (OLAP)

Hi

I want to connect MS SQL 2000 Server with Crystal Analysis via OLAP.

I have installed SQL with Windows authentication mode and installed crystal Analysis 9.0

I have configured Crystal OLAP connection setup.

When I am trying to open or create new application through CA I am not getting through OLAP connection with SQL and I am receiving the error as the following.

Error 1

" Unknown User name and bad password."

Error 2

Failes to initialize.( Cannot connect to the server 'XXXX." the server is not started or too busy)

My SQL server has already started.

Please advsie me ASAP.Run Profiler on the SQL Server and see if you're getting a failed login attempt, or any login attempt at all. That should at least tell you if you're connecting. Can you ping the SQL Serer from where you're doing this|||Hi Chandrat,

I haven't worked with version 9 before but Crystal connectivity issues with SQL Server have somewhat of a track record.

I would suggest checking the basics eg. pinging (as per derrickleggit's post) but you might also want to check out the following:

http://aspalliance.com/532

http://www.dynalivery.com/customersupport/faq/CannotOpenSQLServer.html

Cheers
SQLobSERVER.com|||Dear derrickleggett and SQLobSERVER.com Friends

As long as The SQL and CA9.0 are sitting in the same machine, pinging is working finely.

Profiler receives the connectivity without failure.

Please clarify my doubts.

I have loded IBM Content Manager in my machine, that needs to disable IIS, SMTP, WWWS services to operate CM via IBM HTTP server and IBM Webshpere and I had done so.

Will it cause any problem for the login failure error?

Please update me.|||Is CA9 the only Crystal app you have running?|||Yes... Only Crystal Analysis 9.0..|||Is there any way to explicitly declare the connection values from Crystal? ie. servername, databasename, userID and password?|||We have the only way to connect thru Crystal OLAP connection browser.

There is an option to add server details like as follows

Server Type==> (Microsoft OLE DB provider for olap Sereices 8.0)

Caption==> (Ex:SQLTM)

Server options:

OLAP SERVER

Server Name==>(Ex: DATEC)

Username==>(Ex: SQLADMIN)

Password==>(Ex: *******)

I made the connection with a valid server name, username and password, but not get conneced.|||Chandrat,

I'm stumped - prob best to raise the support call (if you haven't done so already). Looks like you have done everything right. Profiler has even confirmed the connection. Crystal looks like the weak link.

Please let me know how you go and what BO come back with.

Cheers

Crystal 4.6 Question

this is my code, and when It comes to show the report on the screen nothing happens:

CrystalReport1.Connect = "Provider = Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;" &
App.Path & "\config.mdb;UID=sa;PWD=12345;"
Me.CrystalReport1.DataFiles(0) = App.Path + "\db.mdb"

CrystalReport1.ReportFileName = App.Path + "\boent_rep.rpt"
CrystalReport1.Destination = crptToWindow
CrystalReport1.DiscardSavedData = True

CrystalReport1.ReportFileName = "c:\lm_cliente.rpt"
CrystalReport1.SelectionFormula = formula 'whatever formula is
CrystalReport1.Action = 1

After the last line I have checked the .status property being the result -1. I know that after a successful display the result in .status is 3.

What is the .status property means, what are the possible results. What does it means if a -1 result is what I get? Please help :D*bump*|||Did you know the answer?

Cross VPN Domain Authentication

Hi,
We use a cisco point-to-point VPN to allow employees to connect to the
corporate network from their remote computers that are not members of the
corporate Active Directory domain.
When VPN connected from my non-domain member computer, I open the Windows'
"Run" dialog box and type the path of a shared folder on the corporate
network. After a brief delay I get the "Connect to <path>" dialog box that
requests a User name and Password that I would like to use to connect to the
share. I provide suitable credentials, and after another brief delay I am
connected to the share, and I can open documents and copy files to and from
the share (as folder permissions allow).
So far, however, when I write .NET desktop applications that use the
SqlConnection class to connect to SQL Server via domain authentication, I
cannot get an application to connect through the VPN*. Is there any way to
get a database application to pop up a "Connect to <SqlInstance>" dialog box
so that users can provide their domain credentials to get a connection to
SQL Server from a computer that is not a domain member? I'm interested in
both the SQL 2000 and SQL 2005 cases.
* I get "Login failed for user ''. The user is not associated with a trusted
SQL Server connection..."
Thank you,

www.childrensoncologygroup.orgHi Daniel,
I understand that when your .NET application tried to connect to your SQL
Server in your coporate domain from a non-domain member computer via VPN,
it failed with the error "Login failed for user ''".
If I have misunderstood, please let me know.
Please check the authentication mode of your SQL Server in Enterprise
Manager or SSMS (SQL Server 2005 Management Studio). If it is Windows
Authentication mode, please change it to Mixed mode and create a SQL login
for the connection of the non-domain computer.
For the client connection string, I recommend that you refer to this
article:
How To: Connect to SQL Server Using SQL Authentication in ASP.NET 2.0

Hope this helps. If you have any other questions or concerns, please feel
free to let me know.
Have a good day!

Try using Run As to execute the app, with the right-click->Run As... menu,
or by creating a shortcut to the EXE and setting the "Run with different
credentials" checkbox (properties->shortcut [tab]->Advanced [button]
.) The
former is a one-off way to do it; the latter causes a login prompt when the
shortcut is used to run the app.
When prompted, specify domain credentials (in domain\user, or user@.domain
format) for the impersonation context. If that works, a Win32 app could
call LoginAsUser to internally provide a seamless login facility... not sure
what the .net equivilent is -- but if the Run As login prompt is adequate,
it's a moot point.

Thank you. We are currently using an encrypted connection string approach
similar to that described in your MSDN reference. I was hoping to get
around having to maintain those SQL Server logins and the user ambiguity
that comes with using a common login for all users.
Thank you,

Did you mean that you wanted to have each of your desktop .NET application
impersonating a different user which could be used for SQL login?
If so, I recommend that you refer to this KB article for adding the
impersonation code:

Hope this helps. Please feel free to let me know if you have any other

Cross database manipulation

Hi everyone!

I recently found out that using ADO to connect to the SQL server without mentionning the data source; then, by sending a query with the following syntax: dbname.owner.tablename.columnname... an implicit connection to the data source (database) is performed automatically. This way of connecting allowed me to manipulate accross two or more databases thing that is necessary in my project.
My question is:

1- Do anyone have any bad experience and/or negative consequence to such connectivity (memory consumption, unexpected disconnection, ...)? Please consider a very high frequency of manipulation since we are dealing here with a 24/24 hour operational site.

2- Are there any alternative solutions for cross database manipulation (select, insert, update, delete)?

ThanksGot Code?

Personally I don't believe it...

I googled this...

http://www.able-consulting.com/ADO_Conn.htm|||I've found using three part names to work lovely on databases on the same server, and ]url=http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/acdata/ac_8_qd_12_5vvp.asp]four part names[/url] work for databases on other servers (assuming that permissions are Ok).

These are 100% supported, and a nice, clean way to get access to remote data.
