Crystal Reports for VS 2005

Hi, currently I am using Visual Studio 2005 to create a Crystal reports for my application, when i choose the data source from a list of driver, normally we will use OLE DB Provider for SQL Server,

but I saw other provider in the list, which is SQL Native Client, can I use this instead of OLE DB?Hi johnlim,

Yes, you can use the SQL Native client, but it does involved extra supporting files being inlcuded in your setup project. Basically, I would not use it unless you specifically need to access the SQL MDF/LDF data files directly. This is not normally the case with reporting.
I use the ADO provider. It works well and is supported on lots of forums, like this one.
cheers,

Crystal report with Java

Hi,
I am new to Java. I wish to use crystal reports with java. I wish to create an object of crystal report in java and set the data source of the crystal report as xsd file. Then I wish to specify the rpt file to it. Then export the report to PDF format. Please guide me through.hi!
Have you seen the java zone on the BusinessObjects website?

Crystal Report Problem

Please guide me..
I have a form which has a button on it. when clicked it opens up a Crystal Report, designed in Crytsal Report 10.0.
The source of the data for the report is an .xsd file, which basically resides in my C:\INETPUB\WWWROOT\<app name>\ directory.
The application runs fine on my machine.
when the whole of the code is deployed to some other machine and executed, the report again looks for the .xsd file in the
C:\INETPUB\WWWROOT\<app name>\ which is different this time, and thus results in an error.
How can this be solved...The data source obviously has to be available to wherever you're trying to run the report from. I'd suggest putting the file in a shared place on the network so that all machines running the report can access it using the same address.

Crystal Report - Map Field

Hi,
I had designed the crystal reports with the SQL command as the data source. Now I have created views with the same command with some modifications. I use the "Set DataSource Location" to change the data source to the created view. When i click update, I get the Map Dialog.
I'm fine with all these things. My problem is, if i had left some fields unmapped and saved the report, I'm unable to map further. Also I'm not able to change my mapping later. How to go about it? Is there a way to change the mappings?

Regards,

Crosstab, Pivot Query representation

Hello,

I need help with data representation.

I have a query :

SELECT USERLOGIN, SOURCE, DBUSERNAME FROM TBL_USER
WHERE USERLOGIN LIKE 'Don Crilly'

The above query returns the following results:
USERLOGIN SOURCE DBUSERNAME

Don Crilly FC8 Don Crilly
Don Crilly ACT Donald Crilly
Don Crilly SFS Don Crilly

I need the output in following format:

USERLOGIN ACT FC8 SFS
-
Don Crilly Donald Crilly Don Crilly Don Crilly

Can you please guide me as to what I should do to achive the required results.

Thanks.

If you use SQL Server 2005:
SELECT * FROM (

SELECT USERLOGIN, SOURCE, DBUSERNAME FROM TBL_USER
WHERE USERLOGIN LIKE 'Don Crilly'

) p
PIVOT (MIN(DBUSERNAME) FOR SOURCE IN ([FC8], [ACT], [SFS])) pvt
--Or You can use the following for earlier versions
select a.USERLOGIN
, min(case a.SOURCE when 'FC8' then DBUSERNAME end) as [FC8]
, min(case a.SOURCE when 'ACT' then DBUSERNAME end) as [ACT]
, min(case a.SOURCE when 'SFS' then DBUSERNAME end) as [SFS]
from (

SELECT USERLOGIN, SOURCE, DBUSERNAME FROM TBL_USER
WHERE USERLOGIN LIKE 'Don Crilly'

) as a
group by a.USERLOGIN|||

If you're using SQL Server 2005, then you can use the PIVOT operator to do this.

For example, this will work for your query:

SELECT *

FROM (SELECT USERLOGIN, SOURCE, DBUSERNAME

FROM TBL_USER

WHERE USERLOGIN LIKE 'Don Crilly'

) SOURCEQUERY

PIVOT (

MIN(DBUSERNAME)

FOR SOURCE IN ([ACT], [FC8], [SFS])

) AS PIVOTTABLE

The restrictions for using the PIVOT operator are that the PIVOT clause must include an aggregate operator (the MIN in this case, which will work unless a single USERLOGIN and SOURCE combination can have multiple DBUSERNAMEs associated with it) and that the resulting column names (ACT, FC8 and SFS) must be listed explicitly (unlike MS Excel, for example, which just creates columns for every value in the pivotting column).

Hope that gives you a start at least.

Iain

This query will do..

Select * from dbo.TBL_USER
PIVOT
(
Min(DBUserName) For Source in ([FC8],[ACT],[SFS])
) as T
Where UserLogin = 'Don Crilly'

Cross owner table replication

Hello,
We have a number of tables for which we need to setup a push type
replication. In the source db, the owner of those tables is dbo, but in the
subscriber dbs, all tables must belong to a different owner (our
application requirement). As I followed replication wizard, I could not
find any option to set it up this way (I got dbo owned tables in the
subscriber dbs).
TIA,
Vitaliy
When you get to the specify article dialog box, click on the browse button
to the right of the tables and in the general tab enter the name of the user
you wish to own the tables on the subscriber in the destination owner text
box.

Cross database manipulation

Hi everyone!

I recently found out that using ADO to connect to the SQL server without mentionning the data source; then, by sending a query with the following syntax: dbname.owner.tablename.columnname... an implicit connection to the data source (database) is performed automatically. This way of connecting allowed me to manipulate accross two or more databases thing that is necessary in my project.
My question is:

1- Do anyone have any bad experience and/or negative consequence to such connectivity (memory consumption, unexpected disconnection, ...)? Please consider a very high frequency of manipulation since we are dealing here with a 24/24 hour operational site.

2- Are there any alternative solutions for cross database manipulation (select, insert, update, delete)?

ThanksGot Code?

Personally I don't believe it...

I googled this...

http://www.able-consulting.com/ADO_Conn.htm|||I've found using three part names to work lovely on databases on the same server, and ]url=http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/acdata/ac_8_qd_12_5vvp.asp]four part names[/url] work for databases on other servers (assuming that permissions are Ok).

These are 100% supported, and a nice, clean way to get access to remote data.

Cross Database Join in a Data Source View

Hi,

Is it possible to do a cross database join in a report services data source view? It doesn't look like it.

If not I was thinking of linking the table into the other database.

TIA,
Darren

Hello Darren,

Yes, you can do joins to other databases.

For example:

select table1.col1

from db1.dbo.table1 t1

inner join db2.dbo.table2 t2 on t1.col1 = t2.col2

|||In the interest of reuse I would like to reference two Data Source Views in the Model. I have a database that has static database for everyone and a separate database for every customer? Is that possible?|||If I add a related table from another database the model blows up when I autogenerate and says it can't find dbo.Table. It shouldn't be dbo.Table it should be database.dbo.Table. If I explore the data it works fine.
